Absorber Production

A. Manufacturing Equipment for Thermal Collectors

Station 1a, 1b and 1c

Tube Cutting Machine (1a) and Tube Punching Machine Tubocop

(1c). This module unwinds copper/aliminum tube coils, straightens and cut to length tubes, and punches holes on header tubes. It can straighten and cut tubes up to an OD of 22 mm and can punch holes with a diameter of up to 15 mm. Special exchangeable tooling is required for each individual diameter for both straightening and punching.

  • Punching set (for tubes of different OD)
  • Straightening roller set (for tubes of different OD)
  • Punching tool (for different riser holes - same tube OD)
  • The Tube Punching Machine has a 50 tube feeding buffer, which is manually loaded by the operator. In addition, it has a 500 finished riser tube storage buffer.

    Tube Buffer (1b):

    This buffer is an intermediate station between station 1a and stations 1c and 2. Header and riser tubes produced by station 1a are stored here. The operator manually moves the stored header tubes and riser tubes to the automatic frame brazing machine.

    Station 2

    Automatic Frame Brazing Machine SR-FBM-T2 has a rotating mechanism with two individual working areas. On one area the operator assembles manually header and riser tubes to form the grid/harp frame to be welded. At the same time the machine welds automatically the grid already assembled on the second working table. The machine is equipped with two welding heads so that the tubes on both sides of the grid are brazed simultaneously.

    Finished frames are removed manually and forwarded to the leak tester SR-CFL-TEST.

    Station 3

    Copper Frame Leak Tester 1 (SR-CFL-TEST) is equipped with electronic test protocol and sign-in logging system.

    Both grid and serpentine frames can be processed by this machine, which are manually fed by the operator. Testing can be performed at pressures up to 16 bar. Acceptable finished frames are forwarded to the ultrasonic welding machine. Rejected frames are examined to detect the leak points, then mended manually and thereafter sent back for re-testing.

    The SR-CFL-TEST has a visual indicator, a green and a red light, to indicate whether a frame is acceptable or not.

    Station 4

    Ultrasonic Welding Machine for Full-Area Absorbers (SR-UWL-F2500) with two (2) welding heads and feed-in unit.

    This machine in its full setup includes:

  • Sheet Un-Coiler
  • Sheet Corrugating Unit
  • Sheet Sizing and Cutting Unit
  • Sheet Pick and Place Unit (with or without 90o rotation)
  • Riser Tube Cleaning Unit
  • Machine infrastructure for second welding head
  • The un-coiler and cutting unit measure and cut-to-length the sheet. At the sametime the operator takes an acceptable frame from the leak tester, station 3, and put it on thetable of the riser tube cleaning unit, which is part of the welding line. The absorber conveyor, which is part of the line, moves the clean frame to an intermediate position justahead of the welding. The pick and place unit picks up the cut-to-length sheet and places iton the cleaned frame. Frame and sheet are step-fed to the welding unit. The finished product is removed from the output position manualy.

    Manipulator moves the non-glazed collector to

    (a) either an intermediate storage area ahead of the collector frame press, station 7, or

    Station 7

    Panel Frame Press capable of pressing large area flat collectors parted by frame parts. The total system (solar thermal panel) will be pressed so that a compact product is created which can be installed as single units.

    SR-UWL-F2500
    Ultrasonic Welding Line for Full-Plate Absorbers

    The SR-UWL-F2500 is a single Ultrasonic Device Welding Line for the production of Full-Plate Solar Absorbers either in Grid or Serpentine form. As an alternative, for higher production rates, a double Ultrasonic Device Welding Line (SR-UWL-FD2500) can be supplied.

    SR-UWM-S180

    The SR-UWM-S180 is a single Ultrasonic Device Welding Machine for the production of Absorberstrips.

    In its basic configuration the Machine comprises only the Main Welding Unit, which is fed manually by the operator with cut-to-length strips and riser tubes.

    In its most complete, high productivity, configuration the Machine is equipped with the following auxiliary units:

    • Strip Uncoiler

    • Feeding Unit of cut-to-length riser tubes with a 250 tube capacity magazine.

    • Strip Sizing and Cutting Unit

    • Strip Corrugating Unit

    Main Unit

    The Main Unit of SR-UWM-S180 produces absorberstrips from pre-cutted strip and riser welding by ultrasonic technology.

    The Machine meets the prerequisites of CE marking and consists of:

    • The copper tube entry for feeding

    • The copper strip guiding slide (without gradation from 60 to 180mm)

    • The copper tube cleaning system.

    • The welding group.

    • The control panel of the machine.

    • All the above are controlled by a PLC (Programmable Logical Controller) and a control display which are mounted in the main electrical cabinet.

    Copper Tube Punching Machine

    The SR - Tubocop 1500/2000/2500 automatic tube punching machine is an excellent equipment for punching tubes.

  • Fully automatic operation, with the tube feeding system the operator can load 50 tubes or more and then be occupied to other works as the machine runs itself.
  • Intergraded finished product storage system.
  • Programming capabilities and additional modifications of this machine are available. Tube lengths of 1500mm, 2000mm and 2500mm.
  • Additional tube lengths are available by easily modifying the original machine design.

  • SR-FBM-T2
    Frame Brazing Machine with two Torch Systems

    The SR - FBM - T2 is an automatic tube frame brazing machine for solar absorber frames either in Grid or Serpentine form. Model starting from the length of 900mm to the model 2300mm. Model width will be from a minimum of 800mm to a maximum of 1350mm. Larger versions of this machine are available and also additional modifications (paraller workstations - vertical workstations). The SR - FBM - T2 is capable of brazing absorber frames by either copper or aluminium.

    Machine Operation

  • The operator loads the manifold and riser tubes on workstation 1.
  • The assembled frame is moved (rotated) to the brazing area for brazing.
  • The brazing heads A and B start processing the tubes simultaneously.
  • The operator starts loading a new set of manifold and riser tubes on workstation 2.
  • Once the brazing process has been completed the brazing heads are moved to the pause position.
  • The brazed tube frame is moved (rotated) outside the brazing area and at the same time a new pre assembled frame is moved (rotated) to the brazing area.
  • The production cycle is repeated until the operator stops the machine or the input production program finishes.
  • SR- Leak Tester
    Copper Frame Leak Test

    The SR - Leak Tester is an automatic tube frame leak tester machine that is able to perform leak tests for either copper of aluminium frames. The machine performs a leak test by air pressure measurement, any air pressure loss is immediately detected and reported by the machine. The SR - Leak Tester can be modified in order to perform leak testing for submerged into water tube frames or even perform leak testing by water pressure inside the tubes.

  • Main Unit

    The laser welding heads is responsible for welding the copper or aluminum sheet on the corresponding tubes of the frame. There are various components that are situated on the laser welding head (LWH). These are the servo motor (with reduction gear), pneumatic cylinders, laser focusing systems, proximities, various cabling connections and cables, pneumatic valves and regulators. With the help of three (3) servo motors controlled by servo drives in the PLC board, the laser welding group is able to move to all axes (x, y, and z). Each movement speed is different and is controlled by the servo drives in the PLC board. Refer to Item Hellas personnel for further information regarding these parameters. The welding head x,y and z axis movement is controlled by a set of pneumatic cylinders.

    SR-LWL-F2500
    Laser Welding Line for Full-plate Absorbers

    The SR – LWL - F2500 is a single Laser Device Welding Line for the production of Full Plate Solar Absorbers either in Grid or Serpentine form.

    As an alternative, for higher production rates, a double Laser Device Welding Line (SR-LWL-FD2500) can be supplied.

    One of the many excellent capabilities of the machine is the ability to design own absorber frames (grids) either meander or harp and also implement .CAD designs directly into the machine's software.

    Production Performance(L=2500 mm, 10 tubes): 20 Pcs/hour

    Max welding Speed: 10 m/minute

    Please note that these timings can be be greatly improved with the addition of a second laser welding head. Check below for total average welding timings.

    SR-LWM-S180

    Manual Tube Punching Machine

    Tubocop M1500/M2000/M2500 is a manual tube punching machine for aluminum and copper tubes. The machine can process several tube diameters and is able to produce punches of different sizes. To achieve this different tube punching tools are used.

  • Tube lenghts of 1000mm, 1500mm and 2500mm can be processed by the corresponding Tubocop M model.

    Welding Process in Solar Absorber Manufacturing:

    During this process the Copper or Aluminium Sheet or Strip is welded on the riser (copper tube) in order to have a surface connection. By this surface welded connection carry into effect the transfer of heat reflected from the copper or aluminium selective surface to risers (copper tubes) and finally to the water.
